PJM 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction – Results

The results of PJM’s 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction (BRA) were released with capacity prices clearing at the cap rate of $329/MW-day across the entire RTO.  The grid operator estimates that without the cap, the price would have come in at $389/MW-day.

At a total cost of $16.1 billion, PJM secured 134,311 MW of capacity.

This record price is driven by plant retirements, constraints in getting new resources online and expectations of significantly higher load growth than in the past.

The graph below shows the current auction results (red) along with a historical perspective (blue) and the 2027/28 cap and floor (green).
